Curtains for this year’s Pan African Dance Festival-FESPAD finally came down this Saturday. The week long biannual event according to its organizers was successful. So as the event came to an end, just how much did it achieve its objectives, what were the challenges and how best can they be corrected in order to avoid a repeat of the same next season? But, even as the festival ends, questions as to whether it really matched its title-A pan African Dance Festival still linger…How Pan African was it? How much “dance” was it?
According to Joseph Habineza, whose ministry the event fell under until this year’s, the Pan African aspect was achieved in the event. ,he added that there could have been more of this but due to some financial constraints some aspects were not achieved.
In such events, home ground artists otherwise known as local artistes are normally expected to benefit from the exposure to the international artists invited. It is here that they get to shine also. But according to some observers, there were not enough of Rwandan local artists represented.Rica Rwigamba the head of tourism and conservation at the Rwanda Development Board claimed that all artists were paid according to their quotations.
